The 49th Annual Haliburton Art & Craft Festival is a juried outdoor
show held in Head Lake Park in Haliburton Village. We welcome
applications from a wide range of artists and artisans. The Haliburton
Art & Craft Festival is run by Volunteers in support of the Rails
End Gallery & Arts Centre, a non-profit public gallery located in
Haliburton's heritage railway station. It is attended by more than
eight thousand visitors from across Ontario. Further information is

Snail Mail: To request an application in the mail

When is the Application Deadline?
Online:

10:00 pm
Snail Mail: Mailed applications must be
postmarked no later than February 24, 2012.
In person: Applications
must be received at the Rails End Gallery & Arts Centre before 4 pm
on February 24, 2012 Gallery hours: Wed-Sat 11-5 (closed Dec 24-Jan 4.)
Incomplete or late applications will not be
considered.
Who can Apply?
- Applicants must be the designer, creator
and producer of the art/craft sold at the show. The work must be
original, well conceived, expertly executed without technical faults
and show an identity of design. Outsourced items made by another
person, outside the artist's studio, are not permitted.
- NO manufactured items are allowed in the show.
Our foremost interest is that the items are made by hand using a hand
controlled process. Ready-made components are acceptable only if their
importance is secondary to the skill and design contributed by the
artist or artisan and, where their use is clearly appropriate to the
nature and design of the work.
- Articles made from molds are acceptable only
where the mold is the design and product of the artist or craftsperson
or where the mould is subordinate to the maker's creativity.
- Any article in any media using a commercial kit
is automatically disqualified.
- Traditional items have a greater emphasis on
craftsmanship rather that innovation and exploration of materials.
Pieces will be judged on the overall success of the design.
- Original paintings are strongly encouraged.
Reproductions i.e. giclee prints must be to professional standards and
clearly identified as reproductions both to the Jury and the Public at
the show
- No food items are allowed.
The Jury reserves the right to decide on the appropriateness of all
work to be included in the show. Artists
may apply in one of the following categories:
- Wood
- Clay
- Painting/drawing/printmaking
- Jewelry with precious metals
- Jewelry with other materials
- Fibre art/fashion/accessories/leather
- Metal
- Stained glass/hot/fused/slumped glass
- Sculpture
- Photography
- Heritage crafts i.e. quilting, spinning, tatting,
candlemaking, blacksmith, tinsmith
- NEW THIS YEAR: Book Arts/ Cards/

Booth fees
Booths are available in 1 size only: 10' wide x 10' deep $325
(include HST) Additional spot(s) may be purchased. A 50% discount
will apply to additional spots. There is no booth sharing.
Please
remember that this is an outdoor show beside a lake. There is generally
a breeze/wind off the lake and most locations are in direct sunlight.
Exhibitors must have a canopy or shelter for protection from the
weather. Booth Fee must accompany your application. Post dated
cheques must be dated on or before February 24, 2012. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Booth Fee payment is pre authourized and will be processed upon
acceptance. If you are not accepted your payment will not be applied.
If you require return of your materials and/or cheque please make sure
you include the right sized envelope and correct postage. Cancellation & NSF Policy A $100
administration fee will be charged to all cancellations up to and
including June 30. On or after July 1, 2012 all fees are non
refundable. A $25 NSF fee will be charged on NSF cheques.
A certified cheque or money order for the original amount plus the
administration fee must be resubmitted. Booth
sharing There is no booth sharing.
The Selection Process Jury results are based solely on the quality of your
work as shown in your application. To ensure a well balanced,
high quality show, applications are carefully screened by a Jury who
will judge your work paying particular attention to:
- excellence of design and/or function of
the work;
- degree of skill or craftsmanship needed to
produce the work;
- overall impression of the work.
There are approximately 125 vendors at the
Haliburton Art & Craft Festival. Each applicant is juried in
one media category only. The Haliburton Art & Craft
Festival reserves the right to limit the type of work an
artist/artisan can sell at the show. Work shown must be closely in
keeping with work presented to the Jury. at the time of application.
Notification of Jury Decision Notification of the Jury decision will be
sent by April 11, 2012. Set-up times
Exhibitors must check in upon arrival with the organizers before
proceeding to their assigned booth. Check in starts at noon
Thursday July 26, not before. NO exhibitor (car or otherwise)
access to the grounds on Thursday July 26 before noon, No exceptions.
Set up times are: Thursday, July 26,12 noon until 8 pm
Friday, July 27, after 8 am. Booths must be ready when show opens on
Friday at noon. All vehicles must be parked or removed at least
one hour before the show opens each day for the safety of our
volunteers and fellow vendors. Early bird shopping is strongly
discouraged. The public will not be admitted to the grounds before the
show opens. Rails End Volunteer organizers work hard to present a
quality show for both the public and the vendors. Your cooperation is
appreciated.
Parking Vendors
with motorhomes/camper, trucks and heavy utility trailers are
permitted in designated areas. Please provide complete vehicle
information on your application form so we can accommodate your needs
and ours. Thank you for helping us protect our park from damage
caused by vehicles.

lists local accommodations, restaurants and attractions. Failure
to observe the following rules will result in immediate expulsion from
the event: ABSOLUTELY no open fires allowed. Please respect
other vendors and keep noise down after 10 pm. Open consumption of
alchohol or recreational drugs is not permitted. Children must
be supervised at all times by a parent/caregiver. Washroom
facilities are the Port-a-Potties used during the show (cleaned and
emptied daily). There is a licensed beer tent and coffee/snacks
and food area open during the show. Local restaurants and businesses
welcome your patronage. Security A security person is on duty Thursday, Friday
& Saturday 9 pm to 5 am. Rails End Gallery & Arts Centre is
not responsible for stolen or damaged inventory. Exhibitor Dinner Saturday July 28 On Saturday July 28 there is an Exhibitor
Dinner hosted by the Rails End Gallery & Arts Centre Volunteer
Committee. Each vendor may request one complimentary dinner ticket on
their application. Additional tickets are $12 each and can be ordered
with your application. Additional tickets (subject to availability)
may be purchased upon arrival. This informal gathering is held at the
food tent in the park. There will be a cash bar. Exhibitors' Code of Conduct
All exhibitors, by submitting an application, agree to abide by the
conditions outlined in this application. Furthermore:
- Exhibitors are required to have a
professional looking booth with appropriate signage.
- Exhibitors agree to abide by set up and
grounds admission times including limitations on vehicle access
- Exhibitors agree to conduct themselves
professionally and to comply with any reasonable request by a
Haliburton Art & Craft Festival official with regard to displays
and conduct.
- Exhibitors who display work that differs
from the work represented in the original juried application will be
asked to remove the work. Non-compliance forfeit the right to
participate in the Haliburton Art & Craft Festival or future
Rails End Gallery & Arts Centre events. In these circumstances,
no fees will be refunded.
Digital Support Material Every applicant is required to submit 10 (Ten)
images of their work.
It is important that the jury review high resolution
photography of your work in order to see it clearly and effectively. Your images should be saved as "maximum" quality JPEGS, at approx.1200 pixels wide or a maximum of 4MB per file.
Please note: The quality of your
photo submissions is your responsiblity so please make sure that they
meet your own approval before uploading them to our server
